NDIS psychology in Sydney
Capacity-building psychology: understanding how your disability affects daily life, and building practical strategies, skills and supports around it.

What NDIS psychology involves
NDIS psychology is different from counselling for mental health conditions. It is practical and strategic: assessing how your disability affects behaviour, thinking and participation, then building skills and plans that make daily life work better.
- Functional assessments of how disability affects daily life and participation
- Cognitive and neuropsychological assessments to identify learning or developmental needs
- Positive behaviour support plans for participants with behaviours of concern
- Skill-building programs: emotional regulation, social skills, coping and daily living
- Training and strategies for families, carers and support workers
- Reports that support NDIS planning and plan reviews
NDIS psychology compared with counselling
Counselling and psychotherapy treat mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression or trauma, and are usually accessed through Medicare or private health. NDIS psychology is funded under Capacity Building and focuses on disability-related functional capacity: assessment, behaviour support and skill development. If you need both, we'll help you understand the pathways.
How we work
Assessments and strategies are only useful if the people around you can use them. We work closely with families, support coordinators, schools and support workers so plans are practical and consistently applied.
Questions about psychology
What is a behaviour support plan?
A plan developed by a behaviour support practitioner that explains why behaviours of concern occur and sets out positive, proactive strategies to reduce them and build skills. Plans that include restrictive practices must meet NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements.
Do you offer mobile psychology sessions?
Yes. Assessments and sessions can take place at home, at school or in our Bankstown clinic, depending on what the assessment needs.
How is psychology funded under the NDIS?
Usually under Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living, or Improved Relationships for behaviour support. We confirm funding before starting.
Can you do a cognitive assessment for an NDIS application?
Yes. Cognitive and functional assessments are commonly used as evidence for access requests and plan reviews.
